The Reproductive Health Bill: Under Scrutiny

For quite some time now, the reproductive health bill had bannered the morning newspapers, leads the everyday news, and became a major issue in the senate, but what does the reproductive health bill really means? What belief does it stand for? Will it help solve our population problem?
The reproductive health bill has the purpose of educating the Filipinos about family planning. It promotes two child policy and the use of contraception, but it has one catch, it doesn’t coerce or command the couple to choose family planning. The entirety of the said bill only wants to inform the Filipinos about our population problem and how it affects every single individual in our country.

Many people are against the reproductive health bill. The most prominent one is the institution we have known since our childhood. Yeah right, abortion is a bad thing. I believe that too, but the republic health bill is different. Let’s examine the defense of the church. The church is saying that it is against God’s words because there is something written in the bible that God said “Humayo kayo at magpakarami.” Ok fine, God said that, but when was that sentence used? It was used during the time where there are few people. We have already reached the “magpakarami” stage. It’s time to stop. “Humayo kayo at magpakarami” isn’t an eternal command and let’s accept that. The church should stop living in the past and adapt to the changing environment. Can the church feed all the people when there is famine because of the large population? I think not because the church’s money came from the people on the first place and as far as poverty is concerned, if these people don’t have anything to give anymore, the church will surely be adversely affected. One last thought, is this true? More People=More Donations?
Issue: Contraception, is it okay? Personally I think it’s just fine as long as the partners choose it themselves. Is wrong with preventing a pregnancy? I think not. As we know, prevention is better than cure. Contraception can offer ways to prevent unwanted pregnancies which are the major cause of illegal practice of abortion in the Philippines. Life begins at conception right? So basically, nobody’s killed if contraception is used period.
People need to be informed. We know that illiteracy is a problem of 3rd world countries. Shouldn’t we try to do something to enrich the minds of our people so that they will be informed about the disadvantage of having a large family that you can’t even take good care of? It’s time to make up your mind. The reproductive health bill offers a chance for change. It offers the chance for people to get out of their cloak of idiocy and understand that it is not against God’s words to use contraceptives or to practice family planning. We don’t kill if these were used. Too much obsession with the unborn being harmed is faulty and out of context. The reproductive health bill is the real pro-life. One more thing, why is it people are so obsessed with the unborn? They will do anything for the unborn, but once you’re born, you’re on your own.
