Yes. You’ve read it right. I call describe the mobile phone as the "almost" ALL AROUND gadget. It helps me in a lot of ways. (I was actually hoping for it to already do the household chores for me, hehe. Just in my dreams, I guess.)
A cellphone, as we modernly call it, is basically a necessity now thana luxury. Even Pinoys who don’t earn much and only at the minimum wage already have a cellphone. Also, you can see those who live in dumpsites and those who don’t have a permanent home holding a phone and texting. Sometimes, their phones are even more expensive than mine.
Truthfully, I prefer calling than texting. It’s more convenient but maybe, a little costly. Too bad, I can’t afford to always call. And my mom doesn’t like postpaid plans, so I don’t have a choice.
People say that one couldn’t live anymore without a cellphone. But I’m not in favor of it. I can say that one can already live without a cellphone, but maybe not for his or her entire lifetime. I, myself, have not used a cellphone for about 2 months. Also, I don’t also use it that much in summertime. The primary reason I’m using one is for communication, which is the basic use of a mobile phone.
But, because I don’t like reading unimportant and ridiculous messages, I would not text a lot and ignore those messages. Another thing, I will not load my mobile so that I can reason out that I’m not able to reply due to a zero balance load. Also, I’ve learned that life wouldn’t be so worrisome when you don’t have a load. Haha.
Anyway, texting is not the usual thing I do with my phone. Also, with calling. So, maybe you’re wondering what do I do with my phone? So, let me enumerate the things I do with it.
Time/Date Check – though I have a wristwatch, I still check the time using my phone. A mobile has a built-in calendar and uses time. It’s one of the important features for a phone to be called a cellphone. (We just don’t realize it. Imagine the wireless phones in most homes now, they already have a call and text feature like a mobile phone, and they’re very handy already, but do you call it a cellphone?)
Alarm – I don’t have an alarm clock so I use it as my alarm. (I’m glad cellphones have this function!)
Audio Player – my phone has an audio player and this is an advantage for me because I love listening to KPop and other AsianPop. =)
Picture Taking – I want to take pictures, usually. So, I’m happy that my phone already has the camera function. I don’t have to buy a separate digicam just for my everyday use.
Gaming to ease boredom – my phone contains only one game. I don’t play with it because it is too boring. But, it became useful one time when I waited for almost 5 hours! I don’t have anything to do and anyone to text, so a boring game can sometimes ease your boredom.
Instant Flashlight – since high school, I’ve been using my phone as a flashlight. (I’m talking about the light coming from the monitor. My phone
doesn’t have the flashlight thing like in some Nokia phones.)My parents would always ask us to sleep early, but I don’t like sleeping early. So, I tend to read pocketbooks under my kumot and use my phone as the source of light.
I am now using two phones, a Sony Ericson and a China phone. But since about July, I’ve been so attached with the Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type. It’s sleek and so-business-type-like feature very much appeals to me. It’s not yet in the market when I found out about it. But when I saw it in the website of Nokia Philippines, my heart sunk for I know I can already see people will start buying it and I will not be able to own one. If you don’t know what the X3-02 looks like, it’s the Nokia phone being featured in the commercial of Globe SuperSurf 50, where a girl is drinking the bottomless ice tea.
