Me and my Nokia 7610 have been through a lot of things. I bought this phone 3 years ago when I was in my 1st year of College. It's the phone that I've used for the longest time. What made this phone special for me is the fact that before I got my desktop computer and other gadgets, my mobile phone served as my all around device. It serves as my communication gadget of course, but it also serves as my music player, my gaming device (gameboy advance games), and it also does the things that needs to be done with a computer like surfing the internet and creating a document and worksheet (msword and ms excel). This things are done of course using softwares which can be found across the internet. Don't try to find them, good cracks are hard to find, haha!
The coolest thing about my phone is that I learned how to access the internet for free. Yes! you heard it. FREE. How? It's a secret, but let me give you a hint. One word, Proxies. By using these, you can bypass your network provider thus giving you free access to the internet. You can even use your phone as a modem by connecting it to a computer and access the internet from there. This activity became my hobby for a very long time. I've spent countless hours in finding other ways to access the internet for free every time the trick is discovered by the network. Let me give you an idea what I mean by "countless hours." Simple math, how many hours are there from 9 AM to 3 AM of the next day? You have the answer? 18 hours. As far as I can remember, that's the longest time I've spent in finding a trick. In some cases, it can be done in 6 hours. Sweet! I've haven't tried accessing the net for free for quite sometime now because I already have a legitimate internet connection, but I'm not saying that the bypassing days are over. My connection's lick-in period is only 2 years and I'm not planning to renew the contract (Comcla*k beware, improve the connection speed or else).
For the gaming part, I'm using an emulator known as vbagx. The last version I used is 1.20. It can support commercial .gba roms. If the game I want to play is a .gb or .gbc game, I use goboy. I've finished a lot of games for free using this method. As of now, I'm retired with these games. There are a lot of things to do in school and as time goes by, playing will eventually be boring.
As you can see, the best part of having a s60 v2 phone is that you can install a lot of applications with ease. s60 phones support both java and symbian unlike s40 phones that support only java. The best things in the world are free. Correct. The applications I install in my phone are all free. You can get a lot of cracked applications in the internet. I'm a student, what can you expect? I don't have the means to pay for these applications for they require a credit card. Maybe this is a calling for the software companies that it is time to device some student-friendly payment methods, may be student-friendly charge also so that they can be payed even just a little for the nifty codes they have parsed together.
I've used free intensively throughout this post, so it's time to go to the present. As of now, my phone doesn't have anything installed in it besides themes that enhance the interface. Currently, I'm using my phone purely for communication. It's sad that free things in communication like unlimited free text and free call comes once in a blue moon. In my inbox are more than 800 messages that I keep as a memorabilia. Guess what, the person you will see from the very first message to the last one (except for a few info texts from classmates that I delete when the concern is over) is the same. Guess who it is. Haha!
I can afford another phone, but I'm not planning to buy a new one. My current phone never fails me when I need its service. I plan to keep it till it wears down. If I plan to go back to the old days of being a cellphone hobbyist, I know that my phone will be there doing it's thing. My nokia 7610 reporting for duty. My cellphone, I can count on.
